We were very pleased that Her Excellency Hanne Ulrichsen, the newly appointed Ambassador of Norway, was able to join us as guest of honour at our Christmas lunch. As is my usual practice with new ambassadors, I am including some information about her background in this newsletter.

Her Excellency Hanne Ulrichsen, the newly appointed Ambassador of Norway, holds a Master’s degree in Political Science from the University of Oslo. Specializing in security policy, she has also completed studies at l’Institut d’Etudes Politiques in Grenoble, France, and at the the University of Warwick, in the United Kingdom. She holds a Masters degree in European Administration Studies from the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium, and graduated from NATO’s Senior Leadership Course at the NATO Defence College in Rome with high distinction. She speaks both English and French.

From 2005 to 2008, the Ambassador served as Deputy Head of Mission in Amman, Jordan (also accredited to Iraq). She next served as a Transatlantic Diplomatic Fellow in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs at the U.S. Department of State. From 2009 to 2011, she worked at the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Washington, D.C.

We are very pleased to welcome Ambassador Ulrichsen to Ottawa and hope she enjoys her stay here. As a Nordic ambassador, she is an honorary member of the Canadian Nordic Society. and we look forward to hosting her as a Distinguished Speaker in the new year.
