Our Nordic midsummer evening is a wonderful opportunity to mingle with people we know and also to get to meet others for the first time. This year we were delighted that some members of the Swedish Club in Ottawa joined us and brought along their children. And a couple from the Finnish Club of Toronto, who happened to be in Ottawa for the weekend, also joined us. We are always very happy when we have representation from all of the Nordic countries at our events, and we managed that again this year.

Our Nordic summer sing-along was led by CNS President Trygve Ringereide and accompanied by the delightful Margit Viia-Maiste on the keyboard. Mirja Kapsalis and her Finnish Singers sang for us in Finnish, and our sing-along covered all of the other Nordic languages, with the addition of three fun Canadian songs.

Everyone really outdid themselves with their contributions to the buffet table. Several people commented that the food seemed to be especially good this year.

We are so grateful to our extremely gracious hosts, D’Arcy and Nancy Thorpe, who so generously invite us to their beautiful property on the Gatineau River. It is an absolutely ideal setting for our midsummer party and only a few minutes drive outside of Ottawa.
