Geir Kløver Awarded Prize For Best Polar Book

Five years ago, in June 2017, the CNS had the pleasure of hosting Geir Kløver, the Director of the Fram Museum in Oslo (https://www.canadiannordicsociety.com/post/lessons-from-the-arctic). His wonderful talk on Roald Amundsen turned out to be a very memorable highlight of that season, topped off by his presentation to the Society of a copy of the then newly published “The Roald Amundsen’s Diaries: the Northwest Passage 1903 to 1905.”

Geir Kløver has now been awarded the prestigious William Mills Prize for Non-Fiction Polar Books for his book “The Nansen Photographs,” published by the Fram Museum in 2021. "The main elements of the book are every single recovered photograph taken during the expedition together with personal diary entries from Nansen and seven of his crew members about the situation when the photographs were taken. This brings new life to previously known photographs and introduces the reader to hundreds of unknown photographs from the expedition. Due to the large format of the book, the smaller details in the photographs give new insight into the work and daily life on board, the equipment and the clothing.” (https://frammuseum.no/blog/2022/06/09/the-best-polar-book-in-the-world-2022-published-by-the-fram-museum/)
