For many years, our members have enjoyed the use of the beautiful and historic Army Officers Mess at 149 Somerset Street West, Ottawa, for our monthly lunches and Distinguished Speaker Series. The circular room on the left side of the photo in particular is a very special architectural feature and many pleasant and lively chats have taken place there! With the recent amalgamation of the Messes of the Royal Canadian Navy and Royal Canadian Air Forces into this location, we were advised that its continued use for our CNS activities could not be assured, which was certainly a troublesome development.
We are very pleased that we can now confirm that we will, in fact, be able to continue our use of the Army Officers’ Mess. This is thanks to CNS President Trygve Ringereide, who has obtained a new sponsor, Lieutenant Commander Kim Poirrier. You can read about her many accomplishments here: https://tridentnewspaper.com/former-refugee-thrives-rcn-officer/. There is also a short video on YouTube in which she talks about her family’s flight from Vietnam: https://www.canada.ca/en/department-national-defence/corporate/video/caf-stories/beautiful-sea.html. We are very grateful for her sponsorship, which allows us to continue to enjoy this beautiful, historic building, and thank Trygve very much for arranging it.
