The Canadian Nordic Society welcomes His Excellency Jon Elvedal Fredriksen, Norway’s Ambassador-Designate to Canada. Mr. Fredriksen is a graduate of the University of Tromsø, Norway with a cand. philol. in Russian Studies, World Literature and Structural Linguistics, as well as additional studies completed in Stuttgart, Germany.
He began working in the Norwegian Foreign Affairs Department in 1997. From 2008 to 2011 he was Consul General of Norway in Murmansk, Russia. He served as Norway’s Ambassador to Ukraine from 2011 to 2016. Most recently, he has served as diplomatic advisor to the Prime Minister of Norway. His background includes extensive experience with Arctic affairs and security policy as well as experience working with the Norwegian Ministry of Trade. As Ambassador-Designate of Norway, Mr. Fredriksen is an honorary member of the Canadian Nordic Society. We look forward to meeting him either virtually or in person and hope he enjoys his stay in Canada.
